FAQ
The Boat
- Do you have nitrox? No, but we can accommodate extra nitrox tanks.
- What type of gear bags do you allow? Soft sided or boxes; you can store your stuff under the benches or along the sides.
- Are coolers allowed? Yes, small ones only please.
- Is there storage for personal things? Yes, forward of the galley there is a dry storage room.
- Is there a changing area? Yes, there is a changing room off the galley.
- When is the food out? The food is out most all day and there is always something you can eat. Please see the galley menu webpage for more information.
- Do you have oxygen for 1st aid on board? Yes; we have a DAN O2 kit and are planning to get an AED in the future. We believe in safety.
- Do you have bunks? No, sorry we don’t have any bunks. We do have seats for 14 in the galley.
The Crew
- How trained are your Divemaster’s and crew? Most all of the Sunfish Divemaster’s are trained in Technical diving and the deckhands are all advanced divers or higher. Please see The Crew webpage for more information.
- How knowledgeable is the Captain? Very much so, he has been around the area for many years working and operating commercial boats. Please see the crew webpage for information.
The Diving
- What type of dive gear do I need? You will need all your dive gear including tanks and weights.
- Can I get rental gear thru you? Yes, we can arrange for you to get rental gear thru Pacific Scuba. Pacific Scuba is located at the entrance to the dock.
- What is the limit of divers on a trip? About 20 divers for a chartered trip but it is up to the person who chartered the trip so make sure you check with the person/organization/dive shop you signed up with. Please see below for Technical dive trips.
- What type of dive spots do you visit? Reefs, pinnacles, walls, wrecks, planes and the Grace oil rig. We try and go to different spots that most divers have not been to. Most of these are sites we have dived before. There are many places around the islands that are good for beginner to advanced divers and on thru to technical diving. Also, off shore of the coast there are exciting advanced to tech dive sites.
Tech Diving
- What is the limit of tech divers on a trip? 12 divers if they all have doubles and rebreathers and 14 if it is a mix of single tanks, doubles and rebreathers.
- What type of dive spots do you visit? There are some exciting planes, wrecks, walls and pinnacles that we have dived, between 60’-130’. There are other pinnacles and possible wrecks the Captain knows of between 130’-200’. The Captain has been around commercial fishing most of his life and knows some places we would like to explore.
- Do you have room for all the extra gear? Yes, the boat has lots of space and we have added more tank racks to hold the extra 40’s and 80’s.
Miscellaneous
- What do I need to do when boarding the boat? Please fill out the waivers and manifest first, then you can get settled in for the trip.
- Do I need my c-card? Yes, you may be asked for it.
- Do I need a fishing license to hunt? Yes, we also have a cleaning board, knife, salt water rinse, live game well and baggies for your game.
- Are you family friendly? Yes, we welcome all divers including families and kids.
- Do I have to carry my gear to the boat? Maybe, we do have some carts you can use. If you need extra help, please ask the crew.
